New runner? Looking for some amazing running shoes to get you moving?
This post is all about the best running shoes for beginners.
I am a life-long runner and former running shoe specialist (not sure that’s a thing, but let’s go with it).
Working in a Running & Swimming Specialty store for years, I encountered many people at different points in their sport. Helping new runners find the perfect shoe for them, was part of the daily.
When it comes to running, there are a few things you should know before purchasing running shoes.
Know Your Foot
Do you have high arches or flat feet? Knowing this helps to determine whether you should start with a neutral/cushion shoe or a stability/support shoe.
If you don’t know, that’s ok! There is an easy way to find out. Click this link to use this simple test to determine it.
Great! Now that you know what type of support you need, you can pick from the wide range of shoes out there.
Running shoes, like everything else, differ in price points greatly. There are some quality shoes in the low price point of $50-$100, mid price point of $100-$200, and high price point over $200.
Because, as a beginner, we are not sure of the fit & feel we are looking for, I would recommend shopping in the mid range and going from there.
I should note that most brands have shoes in all of the price points, but for this list I will stick to the best running shoes for beginners in the mid price point range.
(I will also mention, to get the best bang for your buck it is best to shop sales and clearance first, you may just find last years model on clear out. Stores continually make room for the new styles and colours, and a lot of time there is little to no changes to the structure of the running shoe).
On that note, I gotta run. 😉
